Atomic Guitar Habits

There’s a great book called Atomic Habits. I highly recommend you read it.

The idea in the book is how to create lasting habits by starting with goals that are stupidly simple.

For example, if you want to run a marathon (which to me sounds like torture), you don’t start by running 26.2 miles.

You start with a goal that is so simple it’s almost laughable. A good goal to start with would be to put your running shoes on every morning. That doesn’t take much effort, but if you start with that you’ll be one step closer to running a marathon. And you build from there.

For guitarists who know they should practice every day but don’t, your goal might be this – touch your guitar every day. Don’t even play it, just literally touch it. Then after a week of that, pick it up and play something, anything, once per day. And build from there.

Pick up the book if you want to go deeper into the atomic habits concept. In the meantime, touch your guitar today.
