| I was recently on YouTube and did a search for “Learn the Fretboard” Here are some of the most watched videos: “Memorize the Fretboard in 3 MINUTES!” (thumbnail says “EVERY NOTE 3 MINUTES)” “Master the Fretboard in ONE HOUR” “Master the Fretboard in 30 Minutes” (by the same guy who did the one above…huh?) “How to INSTANTLY visualize the FULL fretboard!” (thumbnail says DO THIS! 5 minutes) “The FRETBOARD memorization HACK” (thumbnail says MEMORIZE 1 minute) “Memorize the Fretboard in 12 Weeks!” The LEAST watched video among these? “Memorize the Fretboard in 12 Weeks” No surprise there. The most watched is the first one, 3.5 million views, maybe because people just want to see what he’s claiming, or because people think there is some super secret ninja trick to learning the fretboard. Truth is, there is no “hack” to learning the fretboard (or any aspect of learning guitar). The one thing I’ve seen over the last 24 years of teaching guitar is consistency and good practice habits are the two main keys to success. The good news: you don’t need any secret methods.
